Embark on a journey to discover the ancient city of Dion with a morning departure from Thessaloniki. Arrive in Dion after a 1 hour and 15 minute drive and spend time exploring the city’s market and ancient ruins. Take a 3-hour tour of the archaeological site and museum, including the beautiful forest, ancient theater, market, baths, Conservatory, Dionysos’ mansion with its magnificent mosaics, and the Demeter and Isis sanctuaries. This important city was used as a launching point for Philip II and M. Alexander’s campaigns and is known for its historical significance. After the tour, enjoy a light lunch at a local tavern before embarking on a 3-4 hour ascent through dense beech forests and impressive “Robola” to reach the Petrostruga shelter. Take in the panoramic views of Thermaikos gulf and the Pieriki coast from the refuge’s balcony before settling in for some rest and food.

Start the day with a spectacular sunrise and coffee, followed by a delicious breakfast before setting out for the Muses’ plateau. Trek through the forest of centuries-old “Robola” and enter the alpine zone, where the trees will slowly give way to the breathtaking view of Zeus’ throne and the Muses’ plateau. Stand at the summit of Skourtas and witness the unique combination of Jupiter’s throne, sky, and sea.
Travel 1.5 hours to the Muses plateau, where you’ll stay in one of the two mountain shelters for a light lunch and rest. Explore the plateau and its surrounding peaks, visit Kalaya, the Prophet Ilias with the highest church in the Balkans, and end the day at Portes for an unforgettable sunset. Marvel at the colors of the sunset and the impressive large cauldrons of Olympus spread out below you.

Take a break before descending the E4 path, with a stop at the Spilios Agapitos mountain refuge. Enjoy a meal near Enipea’s icy waters and lush vegetation. Return to Thessaloniki. For the adventurous, an alternative climb to the highest peak, Mytikas, with a mountain guide and safety equipment is available.
